When The Unusual Beckons
When we received a request from one of our regular VIP clients to explore the Faroe Islands, we could barely contain our excitement. After all, how many people have even heard of the Faroe Islands, let alone chosen them as their vacation destination? Nestled in the North Atlantic between Iceland and Norway, the Faroe Islands are a remote, wind-swept archipelago under the Kingdom of Denmark. Reaching them involves a domestic flight to Tórshavn, the quaint capital tucked between cliffs and sea.
It was a bold choice for a short 6-day, 5-night getaway. Most travellers might budget 10 days or more to explore the 18-island chain. But we relished the challenge—how could we distill the spirit of these islands into a luxurious, unforgettable six-day experience?
Designing the Journey
Our client, traveling with his partner, had a few specific requests:
- A private fishing experience
- An exclusive, crowd-free puffin encounter
- A visit to Rituskor Island
- And the thrill of crossing the iconic wooden bridge suspended between two cliffs
They were open to self-driving on days without activities—perfect for creating a flexible yet immersive itinerary.
The Helicopter Ride to Rituskor

Most travelers take the ferry to and from the remote island of Rituskor. But we wanted our clients to see the Faroe Islands from a different perspective—so we arranged for them to fly one way via helicopter, and return by ferry.
In the Faroes, helicopters aren’t just scenic—they’re a regular mode of transport between the islands. At a surprisingly affordable price, this 20-minute ride offered jaw-dropping views of the archipelago’s wild terrain. Their destination? Suðuroy, the southernmost island, where Rituskor sits like a secret in the sea.
And yes—they got to cross the legendary wooden bridge strung between two cliffs. Suspended above a chasm with roaring waves below, it’s a thrill not for the faint-hearted, and they crossed it at their own risk—with wide grins and pounding hearts.

Private Puffins—With a Twist

Puffins are a must-see in the Faroes, and Mykines Island is their usual stage. Most tourists are herded onto packed ferries (that sometimes get canceled due to the unpredictable Atlantic weather), but not our clients. We secured a private RIB boat, allowing them to arrive early and enjoy the island without crowds.
But Faroe weather had other plans. High waves made Mykines inaccessible that day.
So what did we do?
We took them to a private, uninhabited island, home to flocks of puffins and rare seabirds. Even better, their guide was none other than the former Deputy Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, who owns the island! The day turned from a potential disappointment into a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
The Floating Lake

Of course, no trip to the Faroes is complete without a hike to Lake Sørvágsvatn, also known as the Floating Lake. Nestled on a cliff above the ocean, optical illusions make the lake appear as though it hovers in midair. The hike is moderate, but the views are nothing short of surreal—water suspended above the sea, with sheer drops and misty horizons stretching endlessly.
From Fjords to Forks

For the fishing experience, we went beyond the typical tourist excursions. We arranged a Faroese boat journey, where our clients cast lines in the fjords like true locals. The real magic came afterwards: they brought their catch to a local Faroese home, where it became part of an intimate dinner spread.
Over warm dishes of traditional cuisine, our clients learned about local customs, family histories, and the deep relationship Faroese people have with the sea. It wasn’t just a meal—it was a cultural immersion, told over laughter and the stories of a people shaped by isolation and resilience.

Conclusion: A Journey Less Ordinary
In just six days, our clients helicoptered over islands, dined in Faroese homes, crossed cliffside bridges, fished among fjords, and stood eye-to-eye with puffins. It was proof that no journey is too short if it’s designed with thought, care, and imagination.
