I still remember a client who said, “Luxury, to me, is silence.”

It stopped me in my tracks.

Not because it was profound, but because it was real.

He didn’t want chandeliers, Michelin stars, or champagne. He wanted stillness — the kind you only find when you’re miles away from the world.

We designed him a private island experience in the Faroe Islands to see puffins before the crowd arrived. And when the weather did not permit, we made an alternative plan to a uninhabited island. Just him, his partner, and their host — who happened to be the island’s former Deputy Prime Minister and the island’s owner. No one else. No crowds. Just raw, untouched nature.

That, for him, was luxury.

And that’s exactly why luxury travel should never be sold off a shelf. It has to be designed.

Luxury Means Something Different to Everyone

The funny thing about luxury is how differently people define it.

For some, it’s the number of stars the hotel has. The red carpet moments. The “once-in-a-lifetime” dining experiences that look perfect on Instagram.

For others, it’s the absence of noise — waking up to a quiet sea, watching mist rise over a fjord, or sharing stories with locals who don’t care where you flew in from.

There isn’t one version of luxury.

Which is why trying to sell it never works.

Because what I might think is luxurious could mean nothing to you.

The Problem With Selling “Luxury”

In Singapore, travel has long been a mass-market thing.

Everything runs on tight schedules, big groups, early mornings, and whirlwind stops. People come home tired, not transformed.

So when we talk about “luxury travel,” many still picture glossy brochures — first-class seats, marble bathtubs, identical five-star resorts in different cities.

That’s not what we do.

To us, if it’s generic, it’s not luxury.

If it’s mass produced, it’s not bespoke.

Luxury isn’t a checklist of amenities. It’s how something feels.

Why We Design, Not Sell

Every trip we create starts the same way — with a conversation.

We don’t show catalogues. We don’t promise discounts. We ask questions instead:

What’s your pace?

What are you hoping to feel when you travel?

What do you want to take away from this trip, besides the photos?

Sometimes, clients don’t even know the answers yet — and that’s fine. The design process itself brings clarity.

For one couple, luxury was a chance to just breathe again after years of burnout.

For another, it was connection — a family in Lapland chasing the Northern Lights, not the crowds.

Luxury looks different for each of them, because it should.
