Certified Switzerland Travel Expert

Switzerland wasn’t love at first sight.

It took me twenty-six years to return.

That second journey transformed not only how I travel Switzerland, but how I design every Switzerland journey for my clients.

It Started With A Two-Day Visit

I first visited Switzerland in 2000 during a graduation backpacking trip across Europe.

Like many first-time visitors, we tried to see as much as possible. Switzerland was given just two days.

We visited Bern, Lucerne, Interlaken and Jungfraujoch before boarding another train to continue across Europe.

Looking back, I realised we had barely experienced Switzerland.

Lucerne

Yet one memory stayed with me.

Early one morning, I stepped outside the small bed and breakfast where we were staying in Interlaken.

The valley was quiet.

Cows were already grazing.

Their bells echoed gently through the fresh mountain air.

Nothing was happening.

Yet it became one of the moments I remembered most from the entire Europe trip.

That same day, I saw snow for the first time at Jungfraujoch and happily built a rather terrible snowman with my friends.

When we left Switzerland, I felt we had rushed through a country that deserved much more time.

I promised myself I would return one day.

It took twenty-six years.

Returning To Switzerland

When I finally returned, I stayed for almost a month.

This time, I wasn’t trying to tick places off a list.

I travelled extensively across Switzerland using the country’s public transport network, scenic trains, lake cruises and mountain railways, exploring how different regions connected with one another.

I deliberately tested transfers with luggage.

I experienced panoramic trains as a traveller rather than reading about them.

I learnt how mountain weather affects itinerary planning.

I visited different hotel bases to understand how they influence the pace of a journey.

I wanted to experience Switzerland the same way my clients would.

"I wanted to experience Switzerland the same way my clients would."

Why I Became Certified

After returning, I completed both the Certified Switzerland Travel Expert programme and the Swiss Travel System Excellence Expert certification.

Not because I wanted another certificate to display on my website.

I became certified because I wanted to deepen my understanding of one of the world’s best public transport systems and one of the most rewarding destinations to design.

Switzerland is a country where small decisions make a surprisingly big difference.

  • Choosing the right hotel base.
  • Allowing flexibility for mountain weather.
  • Knowing when luggage forwarding genuinely improves comfort.
  • Understanding which scenic train supports the route instead of simply adding another famous name.

Certification strengthened the knowledge behind those decisions.

The best itineraries aren't created by visiting more places. They're created by understanding how every part of the journey connects.

The Certifications Behind My Journey

These certifications weren’t the beginning of my Switzerland journey.

They were the result of it.

Together, they complement my firsthand experience and strengthen the advice, recommendations and itineraries I create for every client.

This certification focused on Switzerland’s integrated transport network, including trains, boats, mountain railways and luggage forwarding.

It reinforced the logistics that help my clients travel across Switzerland smoothly and confidently.

What This Means For My Clients

Every Switzerland itinerary I design is shaped by both firsthand experience and professional training.

That means thinking beyond famous attractions and focusing on the small details that make a journey feel effortless.

Many of these decisions are invisible during your holiday. That is exactly how good travel design should feel.
